These Private Collection Candle Houses have been created since early spring of 1977and more than 400 separate editions have been issued. These editions are of various sizes from small editions of 5 to larger editions of 250. The edition sizes will typically be 5, 10, 15, 25, 50, 100 or 250. At one time any edition of 50 was referred to as the House Collection, any edition of 100 was the Cottage Collection and the editions of 250 were the Nostalgia collection and tended to be named after wildflowers or herbs Within each edition it is possible that one number will have a shingle roof and then the next number might have a tin roof. Also the colors, textures (brick, clapboard, stone, etc) and specialized embellishments will differ from piece to piece. What will remain consistent within the edition are the architectural shapes and features. With all of these variations each piece is totally unique. Each Candle house has been made entirely by hand, no molds are used.

With a few exceptions the roof lifts away to allow the insertion of a tea light or other lighting. Each piece is marked in the inside of the back roof with the title of the house, the number and edition size, Jan Richardson and in some instances the name or initials of the assistant builder as well as Windy Meadows Pottery, Knoxville, Maryland; Ocean Park, Washington or Safety Harbor, Florida and St Petersburg, Florida. Also the year of construction is noted. In the case of a roof that has no obvious front or back "Front" is written on the inside of the front roof. Other authentications may be found in the number on the front of the house and the "Jaana" button on the back; a small clay seal about ½" diameter on the back of the house. A few early editions had a removable section in the back for candle insertion and documentation was written on this section. In the early years of Windy Meadows Pottery, especially 1977-78, there were a great number of one of a kind houses. Most of these became part of collections in the mid Atlantic states.

Each Private Collection Candle House is accompanied by a certificate of Authenticity containing the number and size of edition and the name of the builder. A registration certificate is also provided and should be sent back to Windy Meadows Pottery. It is important to note that the early post cards have the Maryland address printed on them and if you have one of these you should readdress it to 2410 6th avenue North, St Petersburg, Florida 33713. When the edition closes Edition Closed notifications will be sent to anyone who has a registration card on file.
